In 2016 the European EMS Leadership Network initiated and hosted the first congress on emergency medical services in Europe. As the first of its kind, EMS2016 Copenhagen, brought together researchers, health care professionals like paramedics, emergency medical technicians, nurses, medical despatchers, physicians and managers in the area of emergency medical services and pre-hospital care.
Through innovation, involvement and a creative approach, the congress provided the latest knowledge, showcased the newest equipment and demonstrated best practices in the area of emergency care – from the citizen’s emergency call, to pre-hospital care and all the way to definitive care including the emergency departments.
The congress also contributed to the international exchange of experience and development of new standards for emergency medical services and pre-hospital care.
The aim of the European EMS congresses is to be a catalyst for future research, education and product development, helping existing knowledge in the area to become more widespread and hence implemented, thus resulting in better treatment for the patients.
